Research Activities

Purification, isolation and analysis of bioactive natural products

Rational approaches, such as bio-guided fractionation, are currently engaged in order to characterize new constituents capable of modulating immune response. Additionally, original analytical methods are also considered to speed up the search for bioactive constituents from complex biological matrices. For instance, DPPH spiking HPLC assay, a rapid and effective evaluation that directly detects radical scavenging constituents, has been implemented in our team. Of interest, that assay successfully led to the straightforward identification of six bioactive constituents from Detarium microcarpum, an edible African species belonging to Fabaceae family. Furthermore, other innovative HPLC spiking approaches are currently under development. A novel method allowing the immediate detection of nitric oxide scavengers has recently been settled and efficiently applied to the chemical investigation of lemon verbena leaves.
