Valorization of animal biomass for the recovery of structural fibrous proteins

Vincenza Ferraro is permanent researcher (CR1) at the INRA unit QuaPA since May 2017. She has been a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellow under the EU FP7 programme AgreenSkills for two years, from May 2015 to April 2017, at the INRA units BIA (Biopolymers, Interactions and Assemblages) in Nantes and QuaPA.

Before moving to France, she has been research fellow in Portugal over 8 years, at the College of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portugal, in Porto. She also worked as a Chemical Engineer in the Research & Development department of an Italian company after graduation in Chemical Engineering at the University of Salerno (Italy) in 2006.

The EU-FP6 Marie Curie Actions project InSolEx-RTN (Innovative Solutions for Extracting high value natural compounds – Research & Training Network) coordinated by Imperial College London (UK) provided her the opportunity to perform a doctorate abroad, which strongly contributed to enrich her professional and life experience. During the activity at the College of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portugal, Vincenza has been involved in 8 research projects, both at a national and international level. Main field of study has been the valorisation of agro-food by-products for the recovery of added-value compounds to be applied in biomedicine, pharmaceutics, biomaterials and technical materials. She has also been working on the evaluation and implementation of food safety and quality management system and on food microbiology associated to the use of agro-food waste.

Vincenza research objective is the valorization of animal biomass for the recovery of structural fibrous proteins.
